The rules of the Rotary youth exchange student
These rules are international, agreed in each country and
undersigned by each student before accepted as a student. The rules should be
checked by the student, the counselor and each new host family.
The following is agreed:
- Student must carry a sickness and accident policy of not less than USD
10000 prior to coming to the host country.
- Attend school regularly.
- Study language of your host country.
- By learning the language of your host town you will get much more
out of your exchange year and enjoy stay in your host country in a
deeper way.
- Do not drive any motor vehicle.
- It is absolutely prohibited. The only exception to this rule is the
lawn mower but you should be careful even with it.
- Traveling during school time is allowed only when it is to a Rotary
occasion or to functions arranged by the school or the host family.
- Travels in your host country are allowed only at weekends and by your
host's and club's permission.
- Travels abroad are allowed only when the following conditions are fully
met:
- traveling does not take place during school time
- you have your own parents written permission for this particular
trip
- you have permission from your host family
- you have permission from your host club and
- you have permission from the district youth exchange chairman.
- Pay your own trips yourself with money you brought along.
- Long-distance calls only with your host's permission.
- Make friends with local young people and choose your company carefully.
- Dating is OK, but serious romances are not allowed.
- Do not invite quests without your host's permission.
- Be active and keep busy.
- Use your monthly allowance for any extra entertainment such as movies,
discos, ball games, weekend trips. Your host family is not expected to pay
for them.
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited from exchange students. The only
exceptions are functions at your host family and Rotary functions where
alcoholic drinks are served by Rotarians.
- Any student with even the slightest involvement in drugs (including
marijuana) will be reported to the police and sent home as soon as police
investigations permits.
